CAS Opportunity: From Charlotte Charlotte
Health & Fitness Magazine (also open attachment) The next
opportunity for service hours is Saturday, June 7th at the
Carolina Kids' Triathlon Series. This race takes place on
June 7th at the Police Academy at Shopton & Beam roads.
Volunteers need to arrive between 7-7:15 for orientation,
then the race starts at 8:00. I expect students will be
finished by 10:00 a.m. Most likely, the task would be
Course Monitoring to make sure the participants travel in
the right direction. I need to secure 18-20 volunteers!
Also, attached is a list of our other events this summer!

Summer To Do List: The Myers Park
Counseling Department would like to provide to all
juniors/rising seniors the attached "summer
to do list". These helpful hints will help families
this summer prepare for the college application season this
fall. We have found that the more organized seniors become
over the summer, the easier and less stressful the fall can
be. We look forward to working with each and every senior
this fall to help them prepare for their next step after
Myers Park! Meredith Sherrill School Counselor (Sw - Z)

Charlotte CROP Hunger Walk - Volunteer Opportunity:
Charlotte CROP Hunger Walk Charlotte CROP Hunger
Walk is looking for responsible IB Students who are looking
to complete service hours this summer. CROP Hunger Walks
help fight hunger and poverty around the world, including
the United States. 25% of what is raised at the Charlotte
Walk stays in Mecklenburg County and benefits Crisis
Assistance Ministry, Loaves & Fishes and Second Harvest Food
Bank. The remaining funds are used by Church World Service
to provide global hunger education, disaster relief and
self-help projects throughout the world. Charlotte CROP
Hunger Walk needs volunteers, primarily to assist in making
recruitment phone calls to organizations and individuals.
Working with CROP is a great opportunity to start getting
your CAS hours out of the way, and CROP will work with your
schedule, so you can volunteer even if you'll be out of town
for some or most the summer. Volunteers will also be needed
for the day of the walk, October 12, 2008. If you're
interesting in getting involved, please contact Cora Maxwell
at cbkjcm@yahoo.com

Junior CAS Hours: Hey all you IB Juniors,
it's that time of the year, yes summer time. Time to hit the
beach and watch television all day long. But wait! Before
you get rid of your notebooks and pens and trade them in
for fun filled days at the beach, don't forget about your IB
CAS hours. Yes, that's right; it's time for all those CAS
hours to finally come out of their hiding places and for
them to be turned in. The final due date has arrived and all
Junior CAS Hours are due on Thursday, May 22nd 2008. You may
turn them in early but do not turn them in late. Thank you
AnTionette, your friendly student CAS Coordinator.

CAS Opportunity: I am a volunteer at
Loaves & Fishes and they are in desperate
need of some student volunteers to help with the postal
carriers' food drive next Saturday, May 10th to help with
picking up the food and sorting. There is an unprecedented
need for food this spring, as the demand is up approximately
30% from last year. They could really use the help of Myers
Park students. Please have any interested students contact
Valerie Crockett at Loaves and Fishes at
valerie@loavesandfishes.org. Thanks for your help in
getting the word out about this. Woods Potts (
