Summer CAS Opportunity: Race organizers for
the 2008 Presbyterian Criterium need volunteers to help tear
down the racing course in uptown Charlotte after the race on
Saturday, Aug 2nd. This bicycle race is one of the premier
professional races in the United States (http://www.charlottecriterium.org/),
and proceeds will benefit the Brain Tumor Fund for the
Carolinas (http://www.btfcnc.org/about/overview.cfm).
Volunteers are needed for a few hours starting around 9 PM,
so come to uptown to watch the races, then stick around to
help, get CAS hours and get a T-shirt. Please email
jeff.nunnaley@wachovia.com or
cmoschel@carolina.rr.com to volunteer, so we have an
accurate count and can send out further information. The
Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas (BTFC), is a
not-for-profit organization founded in 2003 by Charlotte
neurosurgeon, Dr. Tony Asher and retired Bank of America
executive, Jim Palermo. The Brain Tumor Fund for the
Carolinas is dedicated to increasing public awareness of the
impact of brain tumors and to providing support for the
development of treatment strategies and cooperative
biomedical research related to brain tumors in the Charlotte
region.

Summer CAS Opportunity: Linda Mintz,
principal at Selwyn Elementary, could use students for some
work such as answering the phones and handing out flyers.
She is short staffed right now and could really use the
help. She can be contacted at Selwyn 980-343-5835.
CAS Opportunity for Students and
Parents: Attention Students and Parents, the
following comes from Cathi Venable, Media Center Volunteer.
If you can help her now or when school begins, please
contact her at:
clvintouch@bellsouth.net 704-442-4082 704-998-1044. The
Media Center Assistant's position has been cut from CMS, we
will need many volunteers to assist Ms. Richardson. The
need is especially great from 6:45 to 7:30/10:00 am, to
issue lunch block passes and during the 4 lunch blocks to
help monitor the Media Center, assist teachers, sign in and
assist students and check in/out books. I would also
appreciate student volunteers to help with our Labels for
Education Collection Events during the 4 lunch blocks. Our
goal this year is a 100,000 Campbell's products UPC labels
points to purchase 20 DVD players. My summer campaign ends
next Thursday. There is a soup can in the MPHS office lobby
or drop in the mail; 3000 Ferncliff Rd. 28211. And lastly,
HELP NOW! I am running out of time and would appreciate a
couple or more creative students to help design and install
a Pompeii display for the MC foyer. Thank you. Cathi Venable
