Magnet Program Expectations Compact: International Baccalaureate Program

(A magnet compact must be completed for each magnet school being applied to and submitted with the application/transfer request, or the request can not be processed)

Expectations for the School
The International Baccalaureate (IB) magnet program will foster the life-long learning skills that lead to success in rigorous academic secondary schooling and serve as excellent preparation for college. In addition, the program will focus on internationalism and responsible citizenship. Schools will meet all requirements to receive and maintain authorization from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) while supporting its mission “to create critical and compassionate thinkers and informed participants in local and world affairs.”

Expectations for the Teacher
Teachers in grades K-12 will participate in local, regional, and national IB training in order to effectively incorporate the philosophy, strategies, and assessments of the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programs, while addressing the standards, goals, and objectives of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Interdisciplinary planning, inquiry, independent research, and exposure to a holistic view of knowledge will further enhance the student’s educational experience.

Expectations for the Student/Family
IB students (K-12) are expected to demonstrate conscientious academic effort by regularly completing assignments and by participating constructively in lessons, activities, etc. Students must demonstrate a strong commitment to learning, be self-motivated, and have a desire to excel. Students should also be intellectually curious, independent thinkers, able writers and have an interest in community service and issues facing the international community. It is an expectation that students enter the high school IB program with the intention of completing all requirements for earning the IB Diploma. Families must actively support each student’s participation in the IB program.
