March of Dimes

The Myers Park High School March of Dimes team is the only school-based March of Dimes support organization in the region. Since its founding in 2003, the team has raised over $22, 000 for the March of Dimes.  A student-led initiative, the team works both in the school and in the community to raise both funds and awareness for the fight against prematurity and birth defects.  Some of its efforts include selling merchandise the students have made, partnering with Wicked Joe Roasting House of Maine to produce and sell "Mustang Coffee,” recruiting sponsors and walkers for WalkAmerica, the country’s oldest charity walk, and organizing tours of Presbyterian Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. On National Prematurity Day, the team hands out pink and blue iced cupcakes, distributes information about the skyrocketing rate of prematurity and the March of Dimes’ role in combating it, and solicits donations. The team also assists the Regional Office of the March of Dimes with various tasks, such as participating in telethons and preparations for the annual kick-off for WalkAmerica. 100% of the proceeds the team raises benefit March of Dimes.

Change adds up. Please consider donating your loose change to March of Dimes via the Coinstar machines located at many fine establishments, including Harris Teeters.  The machine may offer March of Dimes as a selection. If March of Dimes is not specifically mentioned, just enter code # 1230 at the prompt. Be sure to take the receipt for a tax deduction.

The MPHS March of Dimes team will be setting out merchandise, including coffee, t-shirts, and other items, at the Morrocroft Harris Teeter on the following Saturdays: September 22, September 29, February 9, and February 23. We welcome your support!

March of Dimes Team fundraising at Myers Park's Homecoming, 2006

Over the holidays, members of the MPHS March of Dimes team spent hours designing and creating handmade embossed stationery and pure beeswax candles to sell at Homecoming and other fundraising events. The March of Dimes booth at Homecoming included a variety of attractive items such as “Mustang Blend” coffee from Wicked Joe’s Roasting House of Brunswick, Maine, t-shirts, stuffed bears, and more. 100% of the proceeds benefited March of Dimes.
