The Myers Park High School
March of Dimes team is the only school-based March of
Dimes support organization in the region. Since its
founding in 2003, the team has raised over $22, 000 for
the March of Dimes.
A student-led initiative, the team works both in
the school and in the community to raise both funds and
awareness for the fight against prematurity and birth
defects.
Some of its efforts include selling merchandise the
students have made, partnering with Wicked Joe Roasting
House of Maine to produce and sell
"Mustang Coffee,”
recruiting sponsors and walkers for WalkAmerica,
the country’s oldest charity walk, and organizing tours
of Presbyterian Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
On National Prematurity Day, the team hands out pink and
blue iced cupcakes, distributes information about the
skyrocketing rate of prematurity and the March of Dimes’
role in combating it, and solicits donations. The team
also assists the Regional Office of the March of Dimes
with various tasks, such as participating in telethons
and preparations for the annual kick-off for
WalkAmerica.
100% of the proceeds the team raises benefit March of
Dimes.
