High school years fly by and before you know it, you are looking at your child trying on his or her cap and gown. Below are examples of how a parent can get involved. The IB-PAC always welcomes new ideas and suggestions.
_____Office Help: Involves copying, collating and other
easy clerical tasks for Dr. Thomas and the teachers. Time to
be arranged. Chair: Luan Parker
_____The Leadership Institute: One of the best things Myers Park IBPAC has to offer students! A program designed to develop leadership skills for students from all grade levels through partnerships with various universities and corporations. Seminars, Saturday speakers and after-school discussions/programs will be held throughout the school year. Volunteers needed to coordinate, secure speakers and assist in various other support areas. Co-Chairs: Margie Wagers and Debbie Carney
_____IB Testing Assistance: Need refreshments and paper
products; assist with delivery, set-up and clean-up in March
and April. Proctors needed in May and June. Chair: Paula VanTassell
_____IB Freshman Council: Volunteers to assist with
activities involving the new IB Freshman Council. May include
supplying refreshments and supplies. Chair: Pat Mynatt
_____Teacher/Staff Appreciation: In partnership with the PTSA. Co-Chairs Barbara Burton and Kathie Abraham.
_____Short-term Needs: Need volunteers with flexible
schedules for last- minute, short-term assistance for a variety
of simple tasks
Student Initiatives
Help your student reach out, grow and earn their CAS hours
by providing the framework which will allow them to be successful.
_____ Arts In Action - Involves assisting students showcase the Arts through on-campus events and in the community. Will assist with the Spring Arts Festival on the Quad. May involve transportation, display, judging, supplying materials, etc Arts Chair: Lyn Holt.
____ Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger - Assisting IB Student Council students with promoting awareness of world hunger through campus events, fundraising efforts, and promotions/ticket sales for possible the fall rock concert. Volunteers always welcome!!
_____The Faces of Diversity - Student- generated ideas will be developed to bring our student body together to celebrate and respect difference. Events include the annual International Week, and hosting guest speakers. Parents are needed to help with coordination, publicity, and the supply of materials, artifacts and ethnic-style foods. Co-Chairs: Mary Shintay/Ester Ko
_____Health Focus - Volunteers are needed to serve as support for various Charity events and walks that focus on education, prevention and intervention for many health risks affecting our teens and their families.
